Who We Are

About Us

Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection (CAPED) Trust is a community outreach organisation working in the healthcare domain since its inception in 2014. Our core area of work is cancer prevention and early detection, with a focus on cervical cancer. We break down barriers to women’s health, and empower women to take action regarding their own health. We achieve this through community outreach, awareness and facilitating cancer screening for women from economically weaker sections of the society.

So far, we have impacted over 55.5 million+ people through awareness activities and screened 35k+ women and supported 859 screen-positive patients through our patient navigation program (data till Dec 2023). We have presence in Delhi, Haryana, UP, Punjab, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. We undertake advocacy efforts to effect policy changes at national level to facilitate wider accessibility to cervical cancer prevention modalities.

MR.  ARUN BHARAT RAM

Mr. Arun Bharat Ram hails from the renowned business family of Delhi, the owners of the Shri Ram Group and DCM with a legacy of more than 100 years. He is presently the Chairman of SRF Limited, an organization he set up in 1970, and which has now grown and diversified into a multi-business Rs. 5000 crore manufacturing company, having operations in India, Thailand and South Africa. SRF today is the market leader for most of its businesses in India and also enjoys a significant global presence in some of its businesses.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Vaid is Chairman, Department of Medical Oncology & Haematology at Medanta Cancer Institute, Medanta-The Medicity, Sector-38, Gurgaon, Haryana, India. Dr. Vaid obtained his MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) degrees from the University of Jammu, India. He was awarded his Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree in Medical Oncology from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University in Chennai, India in 1993.

Alok Goyal is a co-founder and Partner at Stellaris Venture Partners, an early stage, technology focused venture capital firm based out of Bangalore. Alok focuses on investments in enterprise software, logistics and automotive companies. On behalf of Stellaris, Alok is on the board of Whatfix, Noticeboard and Loadshare, and also is an Independent Director on the board of eClerx, a publicly listed company in India.

Dr. Sabhyata Gupta obtained her MD (Gynae. & Obst.) degree in 1991. She has trained in advanced laparoscopy in Germany following which, she underwent training in Robotic Surgery at Strasburg, France. She also took an advanced course in Cytoreductive Surgery for Ovarian Cancer & Peritoneal surface malignancies under Dr William Helm at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals, United Kingdom and subsequently trained under
Prof. Dror Meirow in Ovarian transplant in Israel.
She is the first Gynaecologist from India to do Robotic Surgery for Benign and Maligant Gynaecological Disorders

Dr.  Ashok Kumar Vaid, MD, DM

Dr. Ashok Kumar Vaid is Chairman, Department of Medical Oncology & Haematology at Medanta Cancer Institute, Medanta-The Medicity, Sector-38, Gurgaon, Haryana, India. Dr. Vaid obtained his MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) degrees from the University of Jammu, India. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Vaid practiced and coordinated the Department of Medical Oncology at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI) in Rohini, Delhi, India. In addition to his active medical oncology practice, Dr. Vaid has participated in many national and international clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator. His clinical interests include Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant. He has also taken keen interest in treating breast cancer, lung cancer and genitor-urinary cancers.

Dr. Kanika Batra Modi is a consultant, Gynaecologic Oncology in the oncology department at Max Saket. She has over 10 years of experience and deals with all varieties of gynae cancers. Her special areas of interest are ovarian masses/ cancer surgery, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, HIPEC – heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy, vulvar and vaginal cancer surgery. Fellowship-Gynecologic Oncology Registered Colposcopist, Fellow IFCPC, IARC Fellow (IGCS), Gynecologic Oncology, Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney Editor – IJSST, ASCB.

Active participation in community health work and screening programmes have won multiple awards in various oncology forums, publications in various national and international journals, written chapters for oncology textbooks and oncology bulletins. Mridu Gupta

Chief Executive Officer

Mridu is a public health professional with over 28 years of rich and varied leadership experience across the social impact sector, with healthcare as focus over the last decade. She has founded and led many non-profit, grassroots organizations, and achieved growth, sustainability, and credibility for them. Her experience includes stakeholder management, business development, strategy, policy, advocacy, government relations and government affairs. She is a recognized leader within senior government and donor entities and multilateral agencies.

Mridu is passionate about creating collaborative models of public- private partnership for sustainable change in the public healthcare systems. With this objective in mind, she co-founded CAPED 9 years ago and has been instrumental in leading the organization to the pan-India status it enjoys today. Mridu is also a Member of Leaders Excellence (MLE), Harvard Square.

Mathangi Ramakrishnan

Head of Communications & Program Strategy

Mathangi is a professional with 15+ years of experience within the corporate and development sector ecosystem, including 5 years as a Social Entrepreneur. She has led various programmes across education, healthcare, skill development and environment conservation as part of organisations such as Tata Communications, Greenply Industries, Advit Foundation, and Shikshanjali – which she co-founded. She has led and facilitated personal and leadership transformation workshops for bureaucrats, coaches, CEOs, entrepreneurs and youth from different backgrounds. Mathangi heads Communications & Program Strategy at CAPED. She is also a passionate storyteller and a mental health advocate.

Mahek Maheshwari

Communications Coordinator, CAPED

After earning a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the reputed J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Mahek joined CAPED to explore and strengthen the skills she acquired and build on her strengths in an environment that is slightly different from a regular 9–5 job.

Her role at CAPED is to manage the communications department, which includes taking care of the core of awareness workshops and different sessions of them. However, her creativity and enthusiasm led her to take on different roles, such as designing and creating banners and flyers etc for CAPED. She is a multitasker who wants to explore every aspect of the subject in order to gain knowledge and apply it to her job. Her goal is to do everything she can for society so that people can live long and happy lives with their loved ones.

Dr. Manisha Ohlan, Ph.D.

Communications Manager, CAPED India

Manisha is a Communications Manager at CAPED India. Prior to this, she was Consultant at National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, MANAGE, Hyderabad. She is a doctorate in Extension Education and Communication Management and completed her Ph.D. on Adoption and Acculturation of Digital Technologies among Farmers of Haryana from CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana in 2021. She has several academic laurels to her credit including Dr. Saroj Kashyap Gold Medal, University Level Gold Medal of the Year, Best Oral Presentation Award, Best Research Scholar Award, Outstanding Student of the Year Award, Best Ph.D. Thesis Award, etc. Her areas of interest are communication, research, policy advocacy professional writing, data interpretation and social service.

Ravi Kumar

Head of Programs (Implementation)

Ravi has been in the development sector for nearly 15 years, having worked with organisations such as Humana People to People, Smile Foundation and Compassivo Healthcare among others. While his experience on the field spans across community development, education, environment, healthcare and prevention of child abuse, the cause he is most proud to associate with is cervical cancer and women’s health.

At CAPED, Ravi heads field operations, which includes community engagement, project management, collaboration with government, healthcare organisations and other non-profits. His passion and zeal to work towards the upliftment of underprivileged people is evident in his work every day.

Sanjeet Kumar

For the last five years, Sanjeet has worked for CAPED. He has consistently displayed the highest level of obedience at work. His job is to guide patients through the healthcare system and make sure they get the best treatment possible. In his line of work, he possesses the most expertise. He is in charge of organising the delivery of patient care, making sure that patients have access to the tools they need for health, and representing patients’ interests within the healthcare system. He has the capacity to collaborate well with patients from various socioeconomic backgrounds.

Abhishek Sunil Indulkar

I did my graduation in the field of Psychology from Keshav Mahavidyalaya (University of Delhi) 2019 & did my Post Graduation in Gender Development from Jamia Millia Islamia.

Apart from studies I’m a national medallist swimmer. Have 2 National records, & also awarded as a best Swimmer for 2 years consecutively. And also worked as a coordinator in organizing committee of my college as I also love to manage events as well. In graduation days I Was working with ROTARACT CLUB of my college. Since first year my inclination was towards to work in social sector as my main interest are Community Development, children education, women and child development & sports for learning.
Being a son of defence personnel, I’ve received a pleasure to meet new people, new culture, new society which turned completely towards working in social sector.

It’s been almost 5 years that I’ve working in social sector and I love to work passionately in the same I’m a fond of travelling/trekking, and riding bike as well, and I’ve covered half of India on bike and also planning some adventurous and memorable rides.

Sunita works for CAPED as an executive accountant; she is a financial expert in charge of managing and supervising an organization’s financial operations. She answers directly to our senior executives, including our CEO, and offers them financial analysis and guidance to aid in making strategic decisions for the company. Dr. Md. Kausar Neyaz, Ph.D

Dr. Md. Kausar Neyaz completed his post graduation in Biotechnology from the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He received his Ph.D in Molecular Biology from the department of Biosciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He completed his doctoral research in collaboration with National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida, India. His doctoral research specialized in molecular characterization of tumor suppressor gene in Human Papillomavirus infected cervical cancer in Indian population.

Dr. Neyaz took up a post-doctoral research fellowship at Indiana School of Medicine, Indianapolis, USA. His post-doctoral research was focused on understanding the tropism and co-receptor preferences of envelopes for entry into primary cells and development of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies to block HIV infection.

He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource Management from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, Pune, India.

He has more than a decade of experience in education and research with specialization in development of cancer biomarkers. He worked with global leaders in molecular diagnostics and life science research based multinational corporations and a multi-specialty tertiary care hospitals in India. During this period, he has published several research articles in peer reviewed international journals and also has book chapter on “Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Cervical Cancer” published in Preventive Oncology for the Gynecologist, Springer, Singapore.

Dr. Neyaz is proactively engages in creating mass awareness about common diseases in women and girls and that is preventable in nature through continuous public engagement programmes. In this capacity, he has participated in various scientific conferences and workshops across the country as speaker and panelist.

He initiated TQM as a management way in SRF and the Company has so far earned the Deming Prize for two of its businesses, for the tyre cord in 2004 and for the Chemicals Business in 2012.

Mr. Bharat Ram was elected President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during 2000-2001 and continued to play important roles as Chair and Member of various council of CII till March 2015. He co-chaired the Indo German Consultative Group (IGCG) which consisted of eminent citizens from both the countries from 2002 till 2014.

Mr. Bharat Ram is actively involved in social development activities. Currently he is Chairman of:

  • SRF Foundation, the social wing of SRF, which manages its own schools and also supports education in villages;
  • The Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) for Women in Delhi which has consistently been rated as one of the two best colleges of India;
  • The Shri Ram Schools; and
  • CAF (India) – Charities Aid Foundation (India); and
  • A governing body member of CAPED– a registered Society for spreading cancer awareness program

He is on the governing body of SPIC Macay, a society for the promotion of the Indian Classical Music. He is himself an accomplished sitar player, having learnt it from Pt. Ravi Shanker.

Mr. Arun Bharat Ram has won many awards and accolades, The Jamshedji Tata Award, which was conferred on him by the Indian Society for Quality (ISQ) for the year 2006 and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit, presented by the Federal Government of Germany in 2008. Mr. Bharat Ram schooled at the Doon School, Dehra Dun and graduated in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan, U.S.A.

Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Vaid practiced and coordinated the Department of Medical Oncology at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI) in Rohini, Delhi, India. In addition to his active medical oncology practice, Dr. Vaid has participated in many national and international clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator. His clinical interests include Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant. He has also taken keen interest in treating breast cancer, lung cancer and genitor-urinary cancers.

Dr. Vaid established the bone marrow transplant services in the private sector in Delhi starting with Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre during the last decade and has cumulatively carried out the largest number of bone marrow transplants in the private sector in Delhi. Currently at Medanta, he leads a large team which comprises of hemato-oncologists, pediatric transplant specialists, hemato pathologists specializing in transplant pathology, transfusion specialists, and molecular pathologists required for HLA typing and post transplant chimerism monitoring.

Dr. Vaid lectures nationally and internationally and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts. His work has appeared in Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, World Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Diseases International. Dr. Vaid currently chairs the Indian Council of Medical Research Subcommittee on formulating guidelines for treatment of Hodgkin’s Disease in India. He is recognized as Teacher and Examiner for superspeciality course of Medical Oncology by National Board of Examinations and the Bombay University and a reviewer of thesis for award of PhD degree in Life Sciences, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, India. He is an editorial board member for the following journals “Research & Reviews: A Journal of Medicine” and “Research & Reviews: A Journal of Toxicology”, and “South Asian Journal of Cancer”.

He was conferred the prestigious “Padma Shree” Award, one of the highest civilian award in India, by the President of India in 2009 for his contribution to the field of medicine on 14th April, 2009.
Prior to Stellaris, Alok was a Partner at another VC firm, Helion Ventures, where he led enterprise software and services investments. Before his career in venture capital, Alok was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SAP India and had been associated with SAP since the year 2004 in various leadership roles in the United States and in India. Before SAP, Alok also worked with Siebel Systems, The McKenna Group, McKinsey & Company and Cadence Design Systems.

Alok has completed his MBA from INSEAD (France), MS in Computer Sciences from University of Texas, Austin and his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Delhi.

Alok is interested in cricket, light & classical Indian music, hiking and long distance running. In addition, Alok is passionate about mathematical puzzles and used to run a weekly blog at http://alokgoyal1971.com/.

Alok’s association with cancer started in 2007 when his mother was diagnosed with a late stage Ovarian Cancer. He saw his mother battle with cancer for more than four years, during which time he was the primary care giver.

  • Radhika has participated in plays as a lead singer to raise funds for NGO’s like Azad Foundation and CAPED.
  • Mamma Mia Again, ABBA songs Musical, was staged at The Shri Ram Center, Delhi in December 2016 to raise funds for Azad Foundation.
  • I have a Dream, ABBA songs Musical, was staged at Apparel House, Gurgaon to raise funds for CAPED in April 2017.
  • I have a Dream, ABBA songs Musical, was staged at The Shri Ram Center, Delhi to raise funds for CAPED in December 2017.
  • She was also instrumental in staging a play, Khushi Ek Ehsaas, by the visually impaired children of JPM School to raise funds for Blind Relief Association at Kamani Auditorium in January 2016.

Hobbies

  • Radhika learns music at Theme.
  • She also loves to run and has completed 3 half Marathons in India in 2017.

Amitav worked for Bristol Myers Squibb based in Princeton for 5 years. He has been involved with his family-run business since 1994.

Amitav was educated at the Doon School and went on to study Economics at St. Stephens College, Delhi University. He has an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill, USA. He sits on the board of Central Square Foundation, AVPN India and several other non/for-profit organisations in India.

In 2010, he became an Aspen Fellow, in 2015 he became an Ashoka Fellow and 2017 he was incubated as an N/Core Fellow.
