26 Nov CAPED’s journey with Phulkari
In 2018, CAPED got acquainted with Phulkari CAN, a social organisation and the first of its kind in Amritsar. Our journey with Phulkari CAN began when they launched their program “Conquer Cancer” with the aim of making Punjab the first Cervical Cancer free state in India. Having such a noble goal, which is so much in line with CAPED’s initiative to create a “Cervical Cancer Mukt Bharat”, a collaborative partnership came about almost instantly. This partnership has blossomed beautifully in the two years since!
CAPED became the knowledge partner for Phulkari CAN’s on-ground project of spreading awareness among the society about the deadly, yet 100% preventable – Cervical Cancer; and facilitating screening of Cervical Cancer for women from economically weaker sections of the society. Our team has worked closely with the Phulkari CAN team in many areas – right from the training of Phulkari CAN members, sharing of information and knowledge, to supporting in conducting awareness sessions. Throughout this, we have empowered each other and helped create impact in the lives of innumerable people. In the past two years alone, over 2,00,000 people have been educated about Cervical Cancer through 50+ awareness workshops in Amritsar. Over 200 women from underprivileged backgrounds have been screened for Cervical Cancer.
It has been a tremendous journey so far. The best part of it being the equation and energy between the CAPED team and the Phulkari CAN team. We have had a warm, friendly, supportive and nurturing relationship with each other right from day one of working together, which has only grown day after day. We have all learnt from each other – both as individuals as well as organisations.
We are grateful to Phulkari CAN and all its members, for providing us the opportunity to support them and nurture their project as if it was our own. We hope to continue this relationship and work together to eradicate Cervical Cancer from India!!
“Our journey with CAPED has been incredible so far, to say the least. The unwavering support we have received from CAPED has propelled the Phulkari C.A.N. team in the right direction! As our knowledge partners, CAPED has given us wings to achieve our aspirations of freeing Punjab from Cervical Cancer. The Phulkari C.A.N. team is grateful to CAPED for being helpful at every juncture, handholding at the crucial stages, and playing a pivotal role in helping us achieve our goals.”
